In Week 03, viral circulation is at a very high level and continues to rise in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. The incidence rate exceeds 4,000 per 100,000 inhabitants, up 16% (+11% in Week 02). This rate, unprecedented in the region, is due to the rapid replacement of the Delta variant by Omicron, which accounts for more than 98% of new confirmed cases in Week 03. The testing rate is declining, and the positivity rate is rising sharply, reaching 37%. Incidence is increasing across all age groups.

Influenza

During Week 03 (January 17–23, 2022), in hospital settings, according to data reported by emergency departments in the Oscour® network, visits of all ages for a diagnosis of influenza/influenza-like illness remained stable compared to the previous week in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (Figure 12). In Week 03, 190 emergency department visits for influenza/influenza-like illness were recorded, representing 0.5% of all visits across all age groups (0.5% in Week 02). Among these visits, 112 cases (58.9% vs. 58.6% in Week 02) were under 15 years of age, and 10 cases (5.3% vs. 5.9% in Week 02) were 65 years of age or older. Of the 190 visits, 22 were followed by hospitalization, representing a hospitalization rate of 11.6% for this diagnosis (10.7% for those under 15 and 60% for those aged 65 and older). Hospitalizations for influenza/influenza-like illness accounted for 0.3% of all hospitalizations in Week 3, stable compared to the previous week (0.3% in Week 2).
