COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes as of July 29, 2021

Key Points

In Week 29 (July 19–25, 2021), the spread of SARS-CoV-2 continued to increase rapidly in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. The regional incidence rate increased by 136% in Week 29 compared to the adjusted* rate in Week 28, reaching 175 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, slightly below the national incidence rate (191/100,000). The virus is circulating primarily among those aged 15–44 but is also spreading across all age groups, with a sharp increase in the incidence rate among people aged 65 and older in Week 29. The regional positivity rate (4.3%) has risen significantly (+2 percentage points). The testing rate has increased by 29%. The departments of Rhône, Savoie, and Haute-Savoie have incidence rates higher than the regional rate and exceeding 200 per 100,000. Only Cantal is below the alert threshold of 50 per 100,000.
