COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes as of April 22, 2021
Key Points
In Week 15 (April 12–18), viral circulation appears to be declining after stabilizing in Week 14, against a backdrop of a sharp decrease in testing activity over the past two weeks.
The regional incidence rate, while still very high (336 per 100,000), is down 17% compared to the adjusted incidence rate in Week 14 (406 per 100,000). Among all age groups, those aged 15–44 remain the most affected, with an incidence rate of 456 per 100,000. The testing rate (2,948 per 100,000) continued to decline (-26%) in week 15, resulting in a 1.2-point increase in the positivity rate to 11.4% (compared to 10.2% in week 14). Testing activity is down in all departments. The incidence rate is declining in most of them (9 out of 12), particularly in the Rhône and Loire departments, which still have the highest incidence rates in the region, exceeding 400 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The proportion of the variant of interest 20I/501Y.V1 among all cases has increased slightly again, reaching 89%. The proportion of the variants of interest 20H/501Y.V2 or 20J/501Y.V3 remains stable (2%).
