Mental Health: High Prevalence, Especially Among Women and Young People

Sedentary lifestyle: less pronounced than in mainland France, but with significant inequalities

  • 21% of adults spend more than 7 hours sitting per day (vs. 28% in France), but this figure rises to 34% among 18-29-year-olds (young people and students).

  • 87% stand up at least every 2 hours when sitting for long periods (good awareness of recommendations).

Physical activity: insufficient levels, especially among women and people in precarious situations

  • Only 29% of adults engage in regular physical activity during their leisure time (vs. 40% in France).

  • 31% of men vs. 26% of women are active (significant gender gap).

  • 50% use motorized transportation even for short trips (potential for improvement with bike lanes and walking).

Diabetes: one of the highest prevalence rates in France

  • 13.5% of adults report having diabetes (vs. 7% in France), with a peak of 34% among those aged 70–79.

  • 19% among those without a high school diploma (vs. 6% among college graduates). Strong link to economic insecurity.

  • 93% of people with diabetes are receiving treatment (medication or lifestyle changes), but there is a high risk of complications without rigorous monitoring.

High blood pressure (HBP): 1 in 4 adults affected, with social disparities

  • 27.7% of adults report having hypertension (vs. 22% in France), up to 64% among those aged 70–79.

  • 32% among those in precarious situations (vs. 10% among those who are financially “comfortable”).

  • 72% had their blood pressure checked within the past year, but 28% of those with hypertension are not taking medication.
