Suicidal Behavior in Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy. 2023 Report.
Key Points
In 2023, 241 emergency room visits due to suicide attempts were recorded in Guadeloupe (+3.4% compared to 2022). Fewer than 15 emergency room visits were recorded in 2023 in Saint Martin and also in Saint Barthélemy. Trends in these territories are difficult to determine given the small sample sizes and fluctuations. In 2023, 94 hospitalizations for self-harm were recorded in Guadeloupe,
representing a standardized rate of 26 hospitalizations per 100,000 inhabitants (-16.9% compared to 2022). In Saint Martin, 23 hospitalizations due to self-harm were recorded, and 15 in Saint Barthélemy for the same year. The standardized rate cannot be calculated for these two territories given the small sample sizes.
In 2021, nearly 40 suicide deaths were recorded in Guadeloupe, corresponding to a standardized rate of 12 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants (+4.8% compared to 2020). For Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy, the sample sizes are small and cannot be disclosed to preserve statistical confidentiality.
