Situation Analysis

All epidemiological surveillance indicators for dengue fever in Martinique point to the epidemic continuing. It has now been ongoing for 9 weeks. During weeks 35 through 38 of 2013, the highest incidence rates were recorded in the municipalities of Le Diamant and Le Marin, with 38 clinically suggestive cases per 10,000 inhabitants and 11 clinically suggestive cases per 10,000 inhabitants, respectively. No unusual severity of this epidemic has been observed to date. The predominance of DENV-2, observed since early 2013, continues into September. This serotype was responsible for the 2007 epidemic. The situation corresponds to Phase 4, Level 1 of the Psage Dengue* (confirmed epidemic). Given the epidemiological situation, it is important to remember the importance of eliminating larval breeding sites and protecting oneself against mosquitoes. In the event of sudden onset of fever, it is recommended to consult your primary care physician.
