Since early December 2012 (week 49 of 2012), an outbreak of gastroenteritis has been ongoing in Martinique; based on data collected by the sentinel physician network, an estimated 8,700 cases of gastroenteritis have been reported to date.

REMINDER: To limit the spread of the viruses causing this outbreak, it is essential to follow basic hygiene rules, particularly regular handwashing with soap. Parents are reminded that if their children (especially the youngest ones) show symptoms of gastroenteritis (diarrhea, vomiting), they should consult their primary care physician to prevent dehydration, which can be severe in infants.
