Epidemiological Situation of Malaria in French Guiana. Update as of January 23, 2014.

Analysis of the Epidemiological Situation

Malaria activity was low to moderate in the department during the last quarter of 2013. In Maripasoula, following an increase during the third quarter of 2013, activity was moderate, with no transmission clusters identified in the town. The seasonal resurgence usually observed in St. Georges was much less pronounced in 2013 than in previous years during the same period. However, several cases were noted, particularly among military personnel, whose infections resulted from stays or missions at gold mining sites, particularly in the municipalities of Maripasoula, Camopi, and Saül.
