Analysis of the Epidemiological Situation

Since week S2013-48 (November 25 to December 1), surveillance has been based on comprehensive weekly monitoring of suspected cases (by all general practitioners on the island) and monitoring of probable and confirmed cases (by the laboratory and the CNR). This surveillance of suspected cases reported 10 cases in week S2013-48 and 40 suspected cases in week S2013-49. A significant increase in the number of suspected cases was observed between the two weeks. In total, it can therefore be estimated that between 50 and 80 suspected cases have been seen by a physician since the start of the outbreak. In addition, surveillance of probable and confirmed cases is conducted in close collaboration with the Saint Martin medical laboratory and the CNR arbovirus laboratories. This surveillance identified 2 confirmed cases in week S2013-48 and 4 confirmed cases in week S2013-49.
