COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of July 20, 2022.

Key points

Guadeloupe

  • In Week 28, virological indicators were stable but remained at a high level.

  • Although the testing rate increased by 9%, incidence and positivity rates remained stable in Week 28. The 30–39 and 50–59 age groups recorded the highest incidence rates. The 7-day rolling effective R from July 10 to 16 was 0.97 – 95% CI [0.94–1.00], not significantly lower than 1.

  • Furthermore, in Week 28, the L452 mutation (L452R and L452Q, C1 screening result), which is present in several Omicron sublineages (BA.4, BA.5, BA.2.11), was increasing: 84% in Week 28 compared to 77% in Week 27.

  • At the hospital level, emergency room visits were increasing, while new hospital admissions across all departments were decreasing. Furthermore, the number of new in-hospital deaths occurring in Guadeloupe and recorded in SI VIC increased slightly in Week 28.

Saint Martin

  • In Saint-Martin, all virological indicators were declining in Week 28.

  • A decline in new SARS-CoV-2 infections was recorded amid a decrease in the testing rate. The positivity rate remained above the alert threshold, although it decreased by 2.6 percentage points compared to Week 27.

  • In hospitals, as of July 20, 2022, only three cases of suspected COVID-19 followed by hospitalization were recorded in Week 28. No new in-hospital deaths were reported in SI-VIC.

Saint Barthélemy

  • In Week 28, new SARS-CoV-2 infections remained stable alongside stable testing activity. For the third consecutive week, the positivity rate was above the alert threshold but stable compared to the previous week.

  • Despite ongoing viral circulation in Saint-Barthélemy, hospital activity remained low in Week 28. As of July 19, 2022, no emergency room visits for suspected COVID-19 and no new hospital admissions were recorded in Week 28 (data currently being consolidated).
