COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of February 12, 2021
Key Points
Epidemiological surveillance indicators for COVID-19 show that SARS-CoV-2 transmission has stabilized in Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy since early January. The virus is actively circulating in these three territories. Low-level local transmission of the new UK variant has been detected in Guadeloupe, and isolated cases have been identified in Saint Martin over the past two weeks. Vigilance must therefore remain high in the coming weeks by continuing to follow individual prevention measures and limiting contact.
Guadeloupe
Virological surveillance indicators have been generally stable since early January (week 2021-01). This trend was also observed in hospitals (emergency room visits, hospitalizations across all departments, and in intensive care) and in private practice. The positivity rate was at the threshold of the 5% vigilance threshold, and the incidence rate was below the 50/100,000-population alert threshold.
Saint Martin
Virological surveillance indicators were stable in week 2021-05. The incidence rate was above the alert threshold of 50 per 100,000 inhabitants, and the positivity rate was above the vigilance threshold of 5%. In hospitals, the number of new admissions for COVID-19 remained low. In private practice, the number of consultations has been stable since mid-January (week 2021-02). The virus is actively circulating, and this situation must be closely monitored.
Saint-Barthélemy
Virological surveillance indicators remain at high levels but have been stable since early January (week 2021-01), reflecting active circulation of the virus on the island. The incidence rate was above the alert threshold of 50 per 100,000 inhabitants, and the positivity rate was below the vigilance threshold of 5%. Given the small population size, the incidence rate should be interpreted with caution.
