Key Points

Dengue, Chikungunya, and Zika 

• Two outbreaks of locally transmitted chikungunya were identified in the Var department in Cavalaire-sur-Mer (3 cases) and Saint-Raphaël (1 case).

West Nile virus infections

• The virus is actively circulating in the Bouches-du-Rhône, Vaucluse, and Var departments.
• A total of 60 human cases have been identified in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region (+13 cases compared to the last update), nearly half of whom were hospitalized. Twenty-eight cases were diagnosed in the Bouches-du-Rhône, 17 in the Vaucluse, and 15 in the Var. A very large number of equine cases have been diagnosed in these departments.

Acute Respiratory Infections

• COVID-19: Activity has been on the rise in emergency rooms and at SOS Médecins for the past 3 weeks, but remains significantly lower than in the previous 2 years.
• Influenza and influenza-like illnesses: activity is on the rise at SOS Médecins, in line with expected levels for this time of year. Activity is very low in emergency departments (indicators will be presented starting next week).

Asthma at the Start of the School Year

• In S39, after two consecutive weeks of increases, indicators of emergency care use for asthma among children under 15 are stable at SOS Médecins and slightly down in the emergency departments of the OSCOUR® network.

Reportable Diseases

• In July 2026, 34 reportable cases were reported to Santé publique France, a significantly lower number than in July 2025 (= 58), particularly for Legionnaires’ disease (24 vs. 32 in July 2025) and hepatitis A (6 vs. 15 in July 2025).

Mortality

• The number of deaths from all causes, based on civil registry data from INSEE, remained within the usual range of fluctuation in S38.
• Data on electronic certification of all-cause deaths in S39 also remained within the same range as that typically observed.
