Heat Wave and Health in Corsica. Bulletin dated July 29, 2026.
Key Points
- The second heat wave of the summer of 2026 in Corsica began on Tuesday, July 14, and ended on Wednesday, July 22.
- At the regional level, analysis of emergency department visits for the iCanicule composite health indicator shows the following during the heat wave:
- Stable emergency department visits throughout the episode, with a situation comparable to the reference period (July 3–13) for all age groups as well as for those aged 75 and older;
- No increase in the number of heat-related hospitalizations following an emergency room visit during the same timeframe, except on July 21 (8 hospitalizations following an emergency room visit were recorded that day);
- Very low activity at the SOS Médecins association in Ajaccio.
- It is important to note that an increase in heat-related iCanicule indicators had occurred prior to the first heat wave (June 22–July 2). Since then, these indicators have remained at the same level and have not returned to their baseline levels.
