Heat Waves and Health in Occitanie. Bulletin dated July 30, 2026.

Key Points

  • According to Météo France, as of July 28, 2026, no departments in the Occitanie region were affected by a heat wave. Hérault was the last department in the region to be placed under an orange heat wave alert, which remained in effect until July 22 (July 21 for Gard).
  • During the period from July 4 to July 22, emergency care visits related to the iCanicule composite health indicator (including hyperthermia, dehydration, and hyponatremia) were on the rise across the region. This trend, which was generally consistent across the region’s various departments, fell within the expected range of fluctuations given the prevailing weather conditions.
  • Since the end of the last heat wave, these visits have been declining and are now at levels comparable to those observed in June, outside of periods of extreme heat.
