Public Health Monitoring in Normandy. Bulletin dated October 14, 2026.
Key Points
COVID-19
- In Normandy, activity indicators for COVID-19 showed a slight increase in Week 41 (calls to SOS Médecins and emergency department visits) but remain at moderate levels, below those observed in previous years. Virological data confirm this trend, showing an increase in the detection of the virus in hospital specimens (Figure 1). In contrast, the concentration of the virus in wastewater has begun to decline after two months of increases (Figure 2). The proportion of deaths certified electronically as COVID-19-related also began to rise again in week 41.
Bronchiolitis
- Emergency department visits and SOS Médecins consultations for bronchiolitis remain stable among children under one year of age, at levels above baseline. However, this clinical observation is not associated with the isolation of RSV in hospital virology laboratories. The cases of bronchiolitis currently being observed are therefore likely linked to the circulation of other respiratory viruses (such as rhinovirus).
All-cause mortality
- Mortality rates are at the lower end of the usual range of fluctuations.
