Several Outbreaks of Local Transmission Detected
- As of August 18, 2026, in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, three episodes of locally acquired chikungunya transmission were identified in Gironde, and one episode of locally acquired dengue transmission was detected in Dordogne:
- Chikungunya outbreaks: Saint-Médard-en-Jalles (1 case identified), Prignac-et-Marcamps (18 cases identified), Talence (1 case identified, linked to the Prignac-et-Marcamps outbreak);
- Dengue outbreak: Mouleydier (one case identified).
- Investigations, management measures, and prevention efforts are ongoing.
Summary of Imported Cases
- From May 1 to August 18, 2026, 18 imported cases of chikungunya and 28 imported cases of dengue were identified in the region, with no imported cases of Zika.
- The number of imported cases is significantly lower than during the same period last year (144 cases of chikungunya and 106 cases of dengue between May 1 and August 26, 2025).
- Most of these individuals were returning from a trip to France’s overseas territories.
