Key Points

Malaria

  • The number of malaria cases has remained stable and low over the past two weeks, with 5 cases reported (2 in Week 35 and 3 in Week 36, provisional data) compared to a total of 5 in Weeks 33 and 34. Of these 5 cases, one was caused by P. falciparum imported from the African continent, one by P. ovale (investigation ongoing), and the third by P. vivax. Since the beginning of the year, 151 cases of malaria have been reported, including 9 in July, 11 in August, and 3 in September. Over the past three months, most infections have occurred in gold-mining areas in the Savanes sector.

Arboviral Diseases

Acute Respiratory Infections

  • Flu-like illness: Flu activity was low in the region; 7 positive samples for Influenza B were recorded over the past two weeks.
  • Bronchiolitis: Bronchiolitis activity was low in the primary care centers (CDPS) and emergency departments at the three sites of the French Guiana University Hospital (CHU de Guyane). Over the past two weeks, 4 cases of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in children under 2 years of age were biologically confirmed.
  • COVID-19: SARS-CoV-2 activity remained low. In weeks 35 and 36, 5 samples were laboratory-confirmed.

Diarrhea

  • Diarrhea activity remained stable and low throughout the region.
