Chikungunya

Since late January (Week 04), 1,779 cases of chikungunya have been laboratory-confirmed in French Guiana, including 52 in Week 35 (unconsolidated data). The virus is actively circulating in the territory:

• Western Coast: The number of visits to the CHOG emergency room for suspected chikungunya was declining and remained at a low level. The circulation of the virus has slowed significantly in recent weeks. This sector is currently experiencing an epidemic. If this trend continues over the next few weeks—particularly as schools reopen and people return to work—the epidemic will be over in this sector.
• Savanes: The number of emergency room visits at CHK for suspected chikungunya has been rising for several weeks. The epidemic is ongoing in this sector.
• Cayenne Island: The number of confirmed cases has remained stable, and in S35, six active outbreaks were being monitored, spread across two municipalities in the sector. Cayenne Island is in the outbreak phase.
• Maroni: No new cases were biologically confirmed in Week 35 in this sector, which is in the sporadic transmission phase.
• Interior, Eastern Interior, and Oyapock: No new cases were biologically confirmed in Week 35. These sectors are in the epidemiological surveillance phase.
