Chikungunya and Dengue in French Guiana. Bulletin dated September 10, 2026.

Key Points

Dengue

  • Dengue activity is low throughout the country.

Chikungunya

Since late January (Week 04), 1,857 cases of chikungunya have been laboratory-confirmed in French Guiana,
including 46 in Week 36 (unconsolidated data). The virus is actively circulating in the territory:

  • Western Coast: The number of visits to the CHOG emergency department for suspected chikungunya
was low and stable, confirming the slowdown in the virus’s circulation on the Western
Coast, which is currently experiencing an epidemic. If this trend continues next week, the epidemic
will be over in this sector.
  • Savanes: The number of visits to the CHK emergency department for suspected chikungunya remained
high; the virus is actively circulating in this sector. The epidemic continues.
  • Cayenne Island: The number of confirmed cases has been increasing in recent weeks, and in Week 36,
six active outbreaks were being monitored, spread across two municipalities in the sector. Cayenne Island
    is in the outbreak phase.
  • Maroni: A new case was biologically confirmed in Week 36 in this sector, which is in
    the sporadic transmission phase.
  • Interior, Eastern Interior, and Oyapock: No new cases were biologically confirmed in
Week 36. These sectors are in the epidemiological surveillance phase.
