Chikungunya and Dengue in French Guiana. Bulletin dated October 16, 2026.
Key Points
Dengue
- Dengue activity is low throughout the country.
Chikungunya
- Since late January (Week 4), 2,096 cases of chikungunya have been laboratory-confirmed in French Guiana, including 20 in Week 41 (unconsolidated data). The virus continues to circulate throughout the territory:
- Western Coast: After several weeks of slowed viral circulation on the Western Coast and low emergency department activity related to chikungunya, the epidemic has ended, and the area has been in the post-epidemic phase since S38. However, cases continue to be diagnosed, so vigilance must be maintained, as a resurgence of the epidemic cannot be ruled out given the regional situation.
- Savanes: The number of emergency department visits at CHK for suspected chikungunya remained stable in Week 41, with activity related to these visits accounting for 5% of total activity—a slight increase. However, the epidemic continues in this sector.
- Cayenne Island: In Week 41, two active outbreaks were being monitored in the sector. The number of confirmed cases remains low, as does emergency department activity related to chikungunya. Cayenne Island remains in the outbreak phase.
- Maroni: No new cases were biologically confirmed in Week 41 in this sector, which is in the sporadic transmission phase.
- Interior, Eastern Interior, and Oyapock: No new cases were biologically confirmed in week 41. These sectors are in the epidemiological surveillance phase.
