APHEIS. Air Pollution and Health: A European Information System. Assessment of the health impacts of air pollution in 26 European cities. Summary of European results and detailed results for French cities from the report published in October 2002
This document is the French translation of the APHEIS report published in October 2002. It is the result of the second year of work under this European program and presents the findings—summarized and then detailed for each French city—of the health impact assessment of the 26 cities participating in APHEIS. Launched in 1999, the APHEIS program aims to provide European decision-makers, health and environmental professionals, and the general public with up-to-date and easily accessible information to help them make informed decisions on the issues they face daily regarding air pollution and its effects on public health. To achieve this objective, the first and second phases of the Apheis program were devoted to establishing a network of environmental and health professionals in 26 European cities, an epidemiological surveillance system providing continuous information, and a series of health impact assessments of air pollution in these cities. This work constitutes a first step in addressing the information needs, at both the local and European levels, of the various target audiences of this program. (R.A.)
