Higher suicide risk among sexual minorities.
The hypothesis that homophobia is a risk factor for suicidal behavior provides the strongest explanation for the higher prevalence of suicide attempts among gay and bisexual populations. Exclusion, contempt, and stigmatization can indeed lead to a loss of self-esteem and a loss of confidence in the future and in others, as indicated in a publication by INPES, which draws in particular on the international literature.
