Health Monitoring of Asthma - Back-to-School 2020. Weekly Update, September 8, 2020.
Key Points
Week 36 (August 31–September 6, 2020):
In the Indian Ocean region, during the second week of school in Mayotte and the third in Réunion, after two weeks of increases, there was a decrease in the number of emergency room visits for asthma among children under 15 (-10%, or 14 fewer visits). The proportion of emergency department visits for asthma appears to be stabilizing but has reached a level twice as high as that of the past three years (15% in 2020 vs. 7.5% between 2017 and 2019)
Nationally, during the first week of school in mainland France, asthma-related visits among children under 15 rose sharply in emergency departments (+104%, or +846 visits) as well as in the SOS Médecins network (+118%, or +201 cases). The increases observed so far remain comparable to those of the past three years
