Key Points - Week 38 (September 17–25, 2018)

  • Nationwide, two weeks after the start of the school year, emergency room visits and calls to SOS Médecins for asthma have decreased slightly among children (by 7.4% and 14.3%, respectively). The proportion of hospitalizations following emergency room visits for asthma has also decreased, falling from 32.1% in Week 37 to 28.4% last week.

  • In the Indian Ocean region, five weeks after the start of the school year, emergency room visits for asthma have increased by 25% among children. However, the proportion of hospitalizations following a visit continues to decline and stands at 18%.

Overall, the observed trends remain comparable to those of the previous two years.
