Key Points - Week 38 (September 17–25, 2018)
Nationwide, two weeks after the start of the school year, emergency room visits and calls to SOS Médecins for asthma have decreased slightly among children (by 7.4% and 14.3%, respectively). The proportion of hospitalizations following emergency room visits for asthma has also decreased, falling from 32.1% in Week 37 to 28.4% last week.
In the Indian Ocean region, five weeks after the start of the school year, emergency room visits for asthma have increased by 25% among children. However, the proportion of hospitalizations following a visit continues to decline and stands at 18%.
Overall, the observed trends remain comparable to those of the previous two years.
