Key Points
Week 35 (August 30–September 5, 2021)
In the Indian Ocean region, during the third week of the new school year in Réunion, the number of emergency room visits for asthma among children under 15, as well as their share of total activity, decreased slightly (62 visits and 5.9% in Week 35 vs. 65 visits and 7.0% in Week 34). The observed level is comparable to that of 2018 and 2019 but significantly lower than the level recorded last year during the same period. The proportion of hospitalizations following emergency department visits has risen to 39%.
Nationally, during the first week of school in mainland France, visits for asthma among children under 15 are up in emergency departments (+9%, or +59 visits) as well as in the SOS Médecins network (+35%, or +49 procedures) (Table 2). The increases observed so far remain comparable to those of the past three years (Figures 2 and 3).
