Ebola Virus – Epidemiological Update for West Africa as of October 6, 2014.
Highlights
A total of 7,491 cases (suspected, probable, and confirmed) and 3,439 deaths (case fatality rate 45.9%) have been reported in five West African countries (Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria, and Senegal).
The outbreak is generally spreading in the three countries initially affected by Ebola virus disease (week 40). However, the trend varies by country.
The WHO notes that there is significant underreporting in the various areas affected by the outbreak. The reported situation is therefore likely underestimated.
No new cases were reported in Nigeria and Senegal during this week.
