Ebola Virus – Epidemiological Update for West Africa as of October 20, 2014.

Highlights

  • A total of 9,212 cases (suspected, probable, and confirmed) and 4,554 deaths (case fatality rate of 49.4%) have been reported by the WHO in five West African countries (Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria, and Senegal).

  • Since the last issue of the Epidemiological Update, Sierra Leone has reported 460 new cases, Liberia 186, and Guinea 169 new cases.

  • On October 17, 2014, the WHO officially declared the end of the epidemic in Senegal.

  • On October 20, 2014, the WHO officially declared the end of the epidemic in Nigeria.
