Ebola Virus – Epidemiological Update for West Africa as of October 13, 2014.
Highlights
A total of 8,397 cases (suspected, probable, and confirmed) and 4,032 deaths (case fatality rate of 48%) have been reported by the WHO in five West African countries (Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria, and Senegal).
Liberia, Guinea, and Sierra Leone reported cases this week. The last case reported by Nigeria was on September 5. To date, Senegal has not reported any locally transmitted cases.
Outside of West Africa, the United States and Spain have each reported one case of secondary transmission among healthcare workers who treated a repatriated patient.
