Ebola Virus – Epidemiological Update for West Africa as of October 13, 2014.

Highlights

  • A total of 8,397 cases (suspected, probable, and confirmed) and 4,032 deaths (case fatality rate of 48%) have been reported by the WHO in five West African countries (Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria, and Senegal).

  • Liberia, Guinea, and Sierra Leone reported cases this week. The last case reported by Nigeria was on September 5. To date, Senegal has not reported any locally transmitted cases.

  • Outside of West Africa, the United States and Spain have each reported one case of secondary transmission among healthcare workers who treated a repatriated patient.
