Since 2018, Santé publique France, the Université Côte d’Azur, and the Université de Lorraine have been partners under a research collaboration agreement to support sports clubs in promoting the health and well-being of their members (managers, coaches, volunteers, etc.). As a community hub bringing together a large number of members of all ages, sports clubs can play a fundamental role in improving or maintaining public health, beyond simply offering opportunities for physical activity.
In this context, starting November 2, 2021, and for one month, a MOOC will be offered to stakeholders and professionals in the sports sector to provide them with training dedicated to health promotion in their field. Called MOOC PROSCeSS (Health Promotion in Sports Clubs), this training program, which is sponsored by the Ministry of Sports, is one of the support initiatives. It was developed between October 2020 and October 2021 and co-created with the assistance of:
health promotion stakeholders (Regional Authorities for Education and Health Promotion (IREPS)),
representatives of the sports movement,
sports clubs (leaders, coaches).
What is a MOOC?
Short for "massive open online course," a MOOC is an online course open to everyone. This type of course is designed to give everyone the opportunity to assess their knowledge and may lead to certification.
MOOC Curriculum and Content
What is the purpose of the MOOC?
The PROSCeSS MOOC aims to provide the key elements for implementing a health promotion project within a sports club:
know how to make a case for the benefits of promoting health in a sports club,
know how to describe the main characteristics of the socio-ecological model and the health-promoting sports club approach,
understand how to base a health promotion initiative or project on a PROSCeSS approach,
learn how to identify partnerships to implement a health promotion project.
How does the MOOC work?
Each week, for an average of 3 hours per week, participants are provided with theoretical content, testimonials, and practical case studies. At the end of each session, participants can assess their own progress through a quiz. Upon completion of the course, a certificate of successful completion based on quiz performance is issued. This certificate is awarded if all quizzes have been completed and the overall correct answer rate across all quizzes is 50% or higher.
The course is available for free online on the FUNMOOC platform.
