National Survey on the Prevalence of Healthcare-Associated Infections: Results for the Population Aged 65 and Older, France, 2001

The six objectives of the prevalence survey of healthcare-associated infections among people aged 65 and older are those of the national survey, which aims to raise awareness among all hospital staff about the reality of healthcare-associated infections, to train healthcare facilities and institutions in conducting an epidemiological survey, to mobilize the entire facility around a surveillance project, to inform members of the Clinical Committee and all staff of the results (prevalence rates), to estimate the frequency of nosocomial infections among hospitalized patients, and to identify the key characteristics of nosocomial infections and the prescribing of antimicrobial agents
