What is the molecular evolution of SARS-CoV-2 viruses circulating in the region? Results of Flash Survey #24

Consolidated results of Flash Survey #24 (September 14, 2021)

2,197 samples from 18 regions/territories in mainland France and overseas territories (26.2% of the 8,387 positive cases reported today), including 1,885 with an interpretable result. The following variants of concern were detected among the samples:

  • In mainland France: 100% of variants 21A/I/J (Delta, B.1.617.2, AY*, first identified in India)

  • In Guadeloupe: 100% Delta variants

  • In Martinique: 97.4% Delta variants and 2.6% 20I variants (Alpha, B.1.1.7.Q*, first identified in the United Kingdom)

  • In French Guiana: Sample sizes too small to produce interpretable results; however, Delta accounts for the majority of the 10 sequenced samples with interpretable results, and 20J (Gamma, P.1, first identified in Brazil) was detected.

  • In Réunion: 100% Delta variants

  • In Mayotte: Sample size too small to produce interpretable results; however, Delta accounts for all 3 sequenced samples with an interpretable result.
