Key Points on the SARS-CoV-2 Situation Among Young People at the Start of the 2021 School Year (as of August 29, 2021, Week 34)

  • People aged 0–24, who make up 30% of the French population, accounted for 32% of cases and 13% of emergency room visits, but only 7% of hospitalizations and 3% of admissions to intensive care.

  • Overall, epidemiological indicators were declining in week 34, following a peak between weeks 30 and 32.

  • Vaccination coverage (fully vaccinated) among 12- to 17-year-olds reached 43.7%; among 18- to 24-year-olds, it reached 71.5%.

  • Among 18- to 24-year-olds, vaccination uptake (as of late July) was higher among students (85%) than among non-students (69%).
