How Is the Mental Health of the French Population Changing During the COVID-19 Pandemic? – Results from Wave 24 of the CoviPrev Survey

Key findings from Wave 24 (May 17–19, 2021)

  • 80% of French people currently say they are satisfied with their lives. This is a low level, down 5 points from pre-pandemic levels, but up 13 points from the level at the start of the first lockdown; the trend is stable.

  • 19% of French people are experiencing depression. High level, +9 points compared to pre-pandemic levels, downward trend.

  • 21% of French people are experiencing anxiety. This is a high level, up 6 points from pre-pandemic levels, down 6 points from the level at the start of the first lockdown, with a stable trend.

  • 64% of French people report sleep problems over the past 8 days. High level, +14 points compared to pre-pandemic levels, stable trend.

  • 8.5% of French people have had suicidal thoughts over the past year. High level, +4 points compared to pre-pandemic levels, stable trend.
