COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for January 27, 2022
Key Points
In Week 3, SARS-CoV-2 transmission continues to rise at a very high rate. The strain on hospitals, already significant, is increasing, but the pressure on critical care units is easing.
Mainland France:
Very high incidence rates (>2,500) and rising in all regions except Île-de-France
In Île-de-France: early signs of improvement in the situation, with virological and hospital indicators remaining at a high level
Increase in the incidence of deaths, primarily affecting those aged 60 and older across all regions
Overseas territories:
In Réunion, incidence rates and new hospitalizations are rising and are at levels far higher than those of previous waves
Improvement in the situation in Mayotte and French Guiana
Contact tracing
A 4-point increase in infections that may have occurred in long-term care facilities (including nursing homes) among cases aged 75 and older, prompting increased vigilance in these facilities
Prevention
Vaccination as of January 25, 2022 (Covid Vaccine data):
78.3% of the total population had received a full primary vaccination series
64.7% of those aged 18 and older had received a booster dose (75.4% of eligible individuals) and 80.4% of those aged 65 and older (88.9% of eligible individuals)
Importance of combined measures:
Complete vaccination schedule with a booster shot as early as three months
Adherence to preventive measures, including mask-wearing and contact reduction, as well as other recommended measures such as frequent ventilation of enclosed spaces, teleworking, and participation in contact tracing
