Teenagers face psychological distress in different ways

From May 2020 to November 2022, the number of adolescents with severe depressive symptoms doubled, affecting as many as one in four young people. Studies also point to social inequalities—related to gender, sexual orientation, and pre-existing psychological vulnerability—as risk factors. To prevent mental health issues, an online app—created by adolescents, parents, and teachers from four European countries—is currently being tested.
