The CFES Health Barometer survey was conducted in 1994 as part of the national hepatitis B vaccination campaign. Conducted by telephone with a sample of 1,013 private general practitioners, it assessed their opinions and practices in this area, based on the target population groups (the general population, infants, preteens, and adolescents), as well as whether or not they practiced alternative medicine (homeopathy, acupuncture), their level of conviction regarding their role in prevention and the usefulness of HIV screening, as well as their personal preventive measures (hepatitis B vaccination, HIV screening). The analysis identifies areas for development among these professionals: communication (knowing how to discuss sexuality with their patients), training (greater knowledge of infectious diseases), with the involvement of learned and professional societies. It highlights the need to restore their role as prescribers, prevention specialists, and educators.
