On September 23, 2021, Santé publique France and the Ministry of Solidarity and Health organized an online symposium titled “The First 1,000 Days: From Scientific Data to Public Policy Development.”

The event was opened by Adrien Taquet, Secretary of State for Child Protection, and Geneviève Chêne, Director General of Santé publique France. With nearly 2,000 live participants, this symposium provided an opportunity for the Scientific Commission on the First 1,000 Days to address this major public health issue: the first 1,000 days of a child’s life.

The concept of the first 1,000 days

The concept of the first 1,000 days (the period spanning from the fourth month of pregnancy to the child’s second birthday) is a major public health issue. Indeed, this key period in a child’s development represents a phase of opportunities but also of vulnerabilities for parents and their child.
