Well-being: Life Satisfaction Score. Santé publique France Barometer: Results from the 2024 Survey

In 2024, the majority of adults aged 18 to 79 report being relatively satisfied with their current lives. The average current life satisfaction score is 7.1 out of 10. The average score for men is comparable to that of women; those aged 30–39 and 60–79 report being more satisfied with their current lives. Disparities are observed in terms of socioeconomic status and living conditions, particularly based on perceived financial situation. People living in France’s overseas departments and regions (DROM) report, on average, a lower level of life satisfaction compared to residents of mainland France. Life satisfaction among people with mental health disorders (characterized depressive episodes, generalized anxiety disorders) or a history of suicidal behavior (suicidal thoughts or suicide attempts) appears to be significantly lower than that of individuals without such conditions.
