In recent years, the Ddass and the Cire in the Aquitaine region have been called upon on numerous occasions to handle reports of scabies outbreaks in various types of group settings. While scabies remains a mild condition, it is also highly contagious and, in group settings, can lead to prolonged outbreaks that are difficult to control, thereby resulting in significant costs and workloads. Managing these outbreaks requires both decisive and rigorous measures that must be implemented quickly to effectively contain the outbreak. This investigation and management guide for community scabies outbreaks is specifically intended for DDASS offices, maternal and child health (PMI) services, and school health services, and does not address the management of nosocomial scabies. Following an introductory section reviewing the essential facts about scabies, a general step-by-step protocol is provided. This section refers to several detailed practical fact sheets. In the final section, the general protocol is adapted to specific contexts: facilities caring for the elderly, social service centers, children’s facilities, and camps for the Traveler community.
