Health Inequalities: The Impact of Social Determinants. Santé publique France Health Barometer: Results of the 2024 Edition
Socioeconomic inequalities are consistently observed across all indicators studied. Socially disadvantaged individuals consistently report poorer overall, physical, and mental health than their more socially advantaged counterparts. Smoking and insufficient physical activity are more prevalent among disadvantaged social groups, whereas exceeding the guidelines for low-risk alcohol consumption and a sedentary lifestyle are more prevalent among the most advantaged social groups. Differences are observed by gender: overall, women smoke and drink less than men and are more receptive to prevention messages; however, they perceive themselves to be in poorer health and report mental health issues (depressive episodes, generalized anxiety disorders), and complaints of insomnia, while men more often report physical health issues (diabetes, high blood pressure). Food insecurity is more common among young adults and those reporting financial difficulties. More than one in five people (22%) report having experienced discrimination in the past five years.
