Public Health Monitoring in Corsica. Bulletin dated September 10, 2026.
Key Points
Heat and Health
- There is no heat wave currently underway in Corsica, nor is one expected in the coming days. The last heat wave ended on August 29.
- Heat-related activity among emergency services is in line with seasonal expectations and has remained stable compared to last week. The rate of hospital admissions following a visit to the emergency room was high. Only one consultation for a heat-related condition took place at SOS Médecins.
Dengue, Chikungunya, and Zika
- In Corsica, since May 1, two imported cases of dengue have been confirmed (the most recent in week 35).
Asthma at the Start of the School Year
- Every year, during the two weeks following the start of the school year, a spike in emergency care visits for asthma is observed among children.
- In S36, the week of the school year’s start, in Corsica, asthma-related activity among children under 15 increased at SOS Médecins, reaching levels seen in the previous two years, while it remained low in emergency departments.
Mortality
- During Week 35, the number of deaths from all causes, based on INSEE civil registry data, remained within the usual range of fluctuation in Corsica.
- Data from electronic death certificates for all causes in Week 36 also remained within the same range as those typically observed (though the numbers are low and fluctuate in Corsica) (graphs not shown for either source).
