Supporting the promotion of breastfeeding through the "Breastfeeding Guide."
Background - In France, the breastfeeding rate is one of the lowest in Europe, and the duration of breastfeeding is generally very short. The National Nutrition and Health Program’s (PNNS) goal for promoting breastfeeding is to increase both its prevalence and duration. This involves disseminating information and providing support to women. Objective - To develop, in collaboration with healthcare professionals and breastfeeding women, a guide on breastfeeding practices and support. Method - The guide was developed based on an analysis of foreign brochures, scientific data, and intervention practices. The guide is the result of work within a working group and a review process. It was pre-tested with women from all socioeconomic and professional backgrounds. Its free distribution will be handled by healthcare professionals during prenatal care or infant follow-up visits. Results - A guide containing practical, simple, illustrated information and advice for everyday breastfeeding. It will be the focus of a communication campaign in the first half of the year targeting the general public and professionals. Conclusion - This guide, accessible to women of all socioeconomic backgrounds, will also serve as a tool for professionals to better communicate with women and support them.
