Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Update as of August 14, 2024.
Key Points
Syndromic Surveillance
In week 32 (August 5–11, 2024), activity in emergency departments (Oscour® network) and at SOS Médecins clinics was slightly lower than in the previous week; this is a typical trend during the summer months.
Directly related to the Olympic Games, 274 emergency department visits and 11 SOS Médecins interventions were recorded in week 32, a decrease compared to the previous week.
SAMU cases involved patients with minor conditions, mostly young people, the majority of whom did not require transport to a healthcare facility.
Wastewater Monitoring
In week 32, the downward trend in SARS-CoV-2 levels in wastewater continued.
Drowning surveillance
From July 16 to 31, 2024, 272 drownings occurred across mainland France, representing a 22% increase compared to the same period in 2023, likely linked to the heatwave that affected much of the country, thereby creating very favorable swimming conditions.
Over the entire monitoring period, from June 1 to July 31, 2024, these figures are down compared to 2023 (-16%).
