Epidemiological Situation of Malaria in French Guiana. Update as of July 15, 2022.
Key Points
The epidemiological situation regarding malaria was stable during the first half of 2022. The proportion of infections in French Guiana appears to be decreasing compared to the same period in 2021; however, the proportion of malaria cases with information on the presumed site of infection remains insufficient to confirm this trend.
Furthermore, analysis of surveillance data for 2021 shows a stabilization in the number of malaria cases recorded among patients diagnosed by the French Guiana healthcare system, compared to 2020. Areas of active transmission were mainly located in Regina and Haut-Maroni.
Key indicators - 1st half of 2022:
28 malaria cases diagnosed by medical laboratories and decentralized prevention and care centers, including 1 hospitalized case (0 severe cases, 0 deaths)
82% P. vivax and 18% P. falciparum
11 of the 19 malaria cases (excluding relapses) have a presumed place of infection, including 2 in French Guiana, 5 in Africa, 2 in Suriname, 1 in Brazil, and 1 in French Guiana or Guyana
