COVID-19: Epidemiological Update. Weekly Report. Week 14. April 14, 2022.

Key points

In week 14, the COVID-19 incidence rate remained very high, accompanied by a further increase in the positivity rate.

  • Metropolitan France:

    • Incidence rate rising slightly among people aged 50 and older, particularly among those aged 60–79

    • Decrease in the incidence and positivity rates among 10- to 19-year-olds for the second consecutive week

    • SARS-CoV-2 circulation remains high in all regions

    • Hospital admissions remain high and are rising in certain regions

  • Overseas France:

    • Incidence rate remains high and continues to rise on Réunion Island

    • Continued improvement in the epidemiological situation in Guadeloupe and Martinique

Variants

  • Omicron is almost the only variant in circulation, with its BA.2 sublineage accounting for 96% of sequences on March 28, 2022 (Week 13 Flash Survey)

Prevention

  • Vaccination as of April 11, 2022 (Covid Vaccine data):

    • 73.5% of people aged 18 and older and 83.4% of people aged 65 and older had received a complete primary vaccination series and a booster shot

    • Only 9.2% of people aged 80 and older had received the second booster shot recommended for this age group

    • A second booster shot is also recommended for people aged 60–79, nursing home residents, and people with compromised immune systems

  • Protection against SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses currently circulating widely:

    • Wearing a mask and self-isolating if you have symptoms or test positive for COVID-19 remain important

    • Individual precautions against infection are necessary, including wearing a mask (especially in enclosed spaces, during large gatherings, or around vulnerable people), hand washing, and frequent ventilation of enclosed spaces
