This fact sheet focuses on the first general emotional psychosocial competency (PSC) and provides an overview of a specific emotional psychosocial competency: Understanding Emotions (E1.1). Understanding emotions involves gaining a better understanding of the nature and function of emotions and developing two main areas of psychological knowledge: Knowledge 1: Understanding the nature of emotions (components, links to cognitions and behaviors, generation through psychological needs and triggers, various types); Knowledge 2: Understanding the function of emotions (informational function and motivational function for action). This specific competency can be applied during CPS activities. Thus, following a theoretical section, practical examples are presented for adults, adolescents, and children.
