Cognitive CPS Worksheet: Achieving Personal Goals (C2.1)
This fact sheet was prepared by Nadine Fréry and Béatrice Lamboy based on the Santé publique France CPS Volume 2 framework. It focuses on the second general cognitive psychosocial competency (CPS) and provides a summary of a specific cognitive psychosocial competency: Achieving Personal Goals (C2.1). The ability to achieve one’s goals first requires a clear understanding of the objectives one is pursuing (immediate, medium-term, and long-term). Second, it involves being able to specify the various steps needed to achieve these goals, as well as the means to carry out these steps. Achieving one’s aligned personal goals involves implementing two main successive psychological skills (Phase 1 and Phase 2, structured into five successive steps): Phase 1—Formulating one’s aligned goals precisely (Step 1: Formulate one’s psychological needs, personal values, and aligned goals; Step 2: Formulate operational strategies); Phase 2—Effectively implement planned actions (Step 3: Formulate and plan actions; Step 4: Carry out the planned actions; Step 5: Monitor the actions carried out and adjust as needed). This specific skill can be applied during CPS activities. Thus, following a theoretical section, practical examples are presented for adults, youth, and children.
