Prevention and health promotion interventions for older adults: the ecological model.

This practical guide aims to raise awareness of the ecological approach to health promotion. This approach is based on a broad view of the determinants of health that emphasizes the complex interactions between individuals and their environment. When applied to the health of older adults to prevent health problems and promote successful aging, the ecological approach takes into account a constellation of factors—including individual, social, and environmental factors. This book provides concrete guidance for implementing this approach, planning interventions, or evaluating programs inspired by this model. It offers examples of prevention and health promotion strategies for professionals seeking to conduct so-called ecological interventions, as well as, more broadly, for all practitioners in the field who refuse to view the loss of autonomy among older adults as inevitable.
