We should not question the prevention model, but rather build on it.
At the request of the Ministry of Health, Gilles Pialoux and France Lert submitted a report on "Prevention and risk reduction among groups at high risk for HIV and STIs." Based on interviews with clinicians and organizations, and released in November 2009, this report provides an overview of the current situation and formulates ninety-six recommendations, offering avenues for prevention and action for the next multi-year HIV/AIDS program. In the interview transcribed in this article, France Lert emphasizes the priority of addressing the needs of gay men—a group that deserves to be better heard and supported—and the necessity of developing “positive prevention,” that is, therapeutic education tailored to the specific needs of the populations concerned.
