Urban Planning and Reducing Social Inequalities in Health: Local Health Assessments.

Urban planning, community facilities, and transportation are key determinants of residents’ health that are too often overlooked. Yet they serve as effective tools for addressing social inequalities in health, especially since the most disadvantaged neighborhoods face a cumulative set of challenges. The systematic conduct of local health assessments, involving local government representatives, decision-makers, and residents, should be encouraged in order to better tailor public policies.
